Photos By Dad: 1984 Baltimore Orioles Opening Day

Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox
Memorial Stadium
Baltimore, MD
Monday, April 2, 1984

Dad went to Opening Day on April 2, 1984. The Orioles raised the 1983 World Champions banner and received their rings. I knew Dad went to opening day but didn't know he brought a camera in and took pics. I found the negatives and ran them through a scanner and saved them digitally. These are the best ones. I love the front of Memorial Stadium he got.

The Orioles lost to the White Sox 5-2 that day. Scott McGregor started, followed by Storm Davis in relief. Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken drove in the Orioles runs that day.

1984 was a struggle for the Orioles, who kept much of the same team that won that 1983 World Series. They started off 2-10 and were looking up at the Detroit Tigers the entire season finishing in fifth place. The Tigers started off 35-5 and won the East Division, the American League Championship over Kansas City and the World Series over San Diego.

The Orioles have not been back to the World Series since 1983. They played their last game at Memorial Stadium in October, 1991 before moving into Oriole Park at Camden Yards in April, 1992.
