November Travels

Virginia Tech 

Blacksburg, VA 

November 21, 2024 

I went to Virginia Tech to pick up Ben for Thanksgiving break. It will be his first time home since we dropped him off back in August. His first semester is going by fast! He will be home a little over a week. 

This trip I decided to stay overnight as with the time change it gets dark a lot earlier now. It was relaxing and fun catching up with Ben over dinner Wednesday night. 

While Ben was in class on Thursday morning, I took a walk around campus. It was cold and windy and while the walk felt great, this gave me a chance to reassess Ben's Winter clothing options for the next few months. Sweatshirts and hoodies won't cut it walking across Drillfield in mid-February. Thankfully LL Bean still mails out catalogs so we will be sure to go through it and order things he needs over break. 

The drive to and from campus was uneventful, which is always good. I will take Ben back on the Friday after Thanksgiving as we are going to the football game on Saturday vs UVA. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Family Weekend at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech

October 11-13, 2024 

Virginia Tech's Family Weekend was in September but we were unable to make it down to see Ben then. Virginia Tech had a Fall Break so we headed down to Blacksburg. I have been down on a couple day trips but for Weena, she has not seen Ben since we dropped him off in August. 

Friday we toured the campus, had a nice lunch and went to a soccer game.

Soccer game ended up 0-0 but it was very entertaining with both teams having several chances to score.

Saturday morning we went to the Blacksburg Farmer's Market. 

We had lunch on Main Street afterwards.

We stayed at the Inn at Virginia Tech and had a nice dinner there Saturday evening. Sunday morning we had a good breakfast before heading back home. It was a short but great visit. 

It was a year ago that we were finalizing Ben's college applications. In April, he chose Virginia Tech. He is enjoying college life there and is happy. Knowing he has found a home comforts us.
