Friday Night Lights: Centreville vs Fairfax

We used to live in Centreville, VA and since Centreville High School was a couple miles from our home, I would go to their games when I could. In 2000, they won the Virginia State Championship. So tonight I decided to check out the Virginia Division 6 A Northern Region opening round of the playoffs. Second seeded Centreville (8-2) was taking on the seventh seed Fairfax Rebels (6-4).

Good game, Centreville led 7-0 at halftime. Fairfax scored on the first posession in the second half but they missed the extra point. Centreville matched the Fairfax score and it was 14-6 headed into the fourth quarter.

But it was not to be for Fairfax. Centreville sealed things up with a field goal and a late touchdown run by RB Manny Smith, who rushed for over 100 yards. Game over, Centreville wins 24-6. With the win, the Wildcats advance to the 2nd round and a rematch with Chantilly on November 19th. Centreville beat Chantilly 27-26 in OT last month.

Side note: This was one of the better bargains. Seven dollar entrance fee, cheaper than a kids matinee movie. Plus inside you could get a Chick-Fil-A sandwich and hot chocolate for five dollars.
